PackScout methodology

How PackScout uses platform data to calculate EV and compare prices, odds, inventory, and buyback offers.

PackScout puts platform-provided data in a common format and updates it as the source data changes.

At launch, PackScout does not independently value the cards or collectibles inside a repack. Values, inventory, odds, buyback terms, and other underlying product data come from the platforms themselves.

Repack

A repack is a sealed bundle of cards assembled by a seller at a set price. Sellers buy cards individually, in bulk, or from other packs.

A repack can include lower-value cards alongside a chance at a graded card, autograph, rare parallel, or older card. Check the inventory and odds to understand the possible outcomes.

Repacks also cover Pokémon and other trading card games. Products may mix raw cards, graded cards, and sealed packs.

EV

Expected value, or EV, represents the average value of a pack across all possible outcomes. PackScout displays EV as one dollar value and one percentage.

EV $

EV $ is the average guaranteed buyback value of a pack in dollars, including the platform's buyback percentage.

Example: If a $1 pack has $1 of expected underlying value and the platform offers a 96% buyback, EV $ is $0.96.

EV %

EV % is EV $ as a percentage of Pack Price. 100% matches the price.

Example: If a pack costs $1.00 and has EV $0.96, EV % is 96.00%.

PackScout calculates EV from platform data and updates it when that data changes. It describes an average, not the result of an individual pack.

Buyback %

Buyback % is the percentage of a pull's stated value that a platform offers if the user chooses to sell it back rather than take possession of the collectible.

Example: A card with a stated value of $100 and an 85% buyback would have a buyback value of $85.

Buyback terms vary by platform and product.

Pack Price

Pack Price is the price to open or purchase one pack. Unless otherwise stated, PackScout uses the current price displayed by the platform.

Inventory

Inventory is the pool of possible outcomes within a repack. For finite-inventory products, inventory changes as packs are opened and collectibles are pulled. Where the platform makes this information available, PackScout updates inventory dynamically.

Remaining inventory

Remaining inventory is the portion of a pack's original inventory that has not yet been pulled.

As cards leave a finite pool, the remaining inventory and its odds change.

Odds

Odds represent the probability of receiving a particular outcome or category of outcomes.

PackScout uses platform-published odds or calculates them from the platform's inventory data.

Chase

Chase refers to a particularly desirable or high-value outcome within a pack.

A chase identifies a notable possible outcome. It does not indicate the probability of pulling that outcome unless odds are also shown.

Pull

A pull is the outcome of one opening, as reported by the platform.

Recent pulls

Recent pulls show the latest reported openings. In a finite pool, they can help track the remaining inventory.

Recent pulls do not predict the outcome of the next pack.

Data updates

Prices and inventory can change with each opening.

PackScout updates its metrics when platforms provide new data.

An estimate becomes Last-known after 60 minutes without new source data. Its recorded price and EV stay unchanged. Every pack’s trust score reflects how complete and recent its collected data is, and falls to zero after 3 days without new data.

Data sources

PackScout currently sources underlying repack data directly from the platforms we cover.

At launch, this includes:

  • Courtyard
  • Collector Crypt
  • Phygitals
  • ClutchPacks
  • GameStop
  • Beezie
  • Trove
  • Stadium Vault

The same metric definitions apply across platforms so you can compare their products.

PackScout does not currently use independent collectible sales data or proprietary collectible valuations when calculating EV.

Limits

PackScout relies on information published or provided by repack platforms. We do not independently verify every underlying value, inventory position, probability, or other data point.

Platform data can change and may occasionally be incomplete or delayed. PackScout updates its metrics as new underlying data becomes available.

Expected value is a statistical measure across possible outcomes. It is not a prediction of an individual pack, and actual results can vary significantly.

PackScout does not guarantee platform data, individual outcomes, or profitability.

Financial risk

PackScout provides comparisons, not financial, investment, or gambling advice. No metric is a recommendation to buy.

Individual results can vary and you may lose some or all of the money spent.

Responsible Play

Opening a repack involves risk and can result in financial loss. Even a favorable EV is an average across many outcomes — any individual pack can lose money, and past outcomes do not guarantee future results.
